The United Kingdom intends to transfer a new ballistic missile to Ukraine by the end of 2027.

The United Kingdom has initiated the development of a new ballistic missile under the Nightfall program to enhance the defensive capabilities of Ukraine and Europe. The missile is expected to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of 2027.

The Nightfall program envisions the creation of ammunition to counter the Russian invasion and to expand the defensive capabilities of European countries in case of reduced support from the USA. The process of signing preliminary contracts was delayed by two months, and the first test launches are planned for the upcoming year.

As noted by Bloomberg, the initial concept called for a missile with a range of over 600 kilometers. However, based on feedback from the defense industry, the requirements have been adjusted: the range has been reduced to 500 kilometers, and the warhead weight to 200 kilograms. The maximum cost of a single missile will now be £800,000.

The new missile is being developed with the capability to be launched from various vehicles, allowing for rapid sequential fire. It is also designed to operate effectively in electronic warfare conditions. The simplified design will allow for the production of up to ten systems per month with minimal use of components subject to export control.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of the program for Ukraine’s long-term security. This is a strategic move for regional stability, especially amid increasing military pressure from Russia.
