Seoul announces the presence of 10,000 North Korean troops near the border with Ukraine. South Korean lawmaker Lee Sung-kwon reported the dispatch of approximately 5,000 North Korean military builders to Russia since September to assist in infrastructure reconstruction.
North Korean troops are deployed near the Ukrainian border as part of ongoing support provided by Pyongyang to Russia. This revelation became known during a briefing by the South Korean intelligence service, reports Euractiv journalists. The deployment of North Korean soldiers occurs amidst suspicions of Russia providing military technology and food support in exchange for military assistance from the DPRK.
Analysts believe that these arrangements allow North Korea to circumvent international sanctions imposed due to its nuclear programs. It is estimated that as a result of Russian military actions on Ukrainian territory, at least 600 North Korean soldiers were killed, and thousands were wounded. It was also reported that drone operators from the DPRK are assisting Russian forces in strikes on the Sumy region.
According to experts, the dispatch of military personnel from the DPRK raises concerns about maintaining tension in international relations, as well as the escalation of conflicts in the region. These actions are part of a strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang, which could have significant implications for geopolitical stability.
