Saakashvili asked Zelensky to include him in the list of civilian prisoners of the Russian war.

Saakashvili claims that the Georgian authorities have declared Ukraine an enemy

Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili stated that the latest accusations against him were used by the Georgian authorities to declare Ukraine a hostile state. He appealed to Volodymyr Zelensky to include him in the list of civilian prisoners of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Saakashvili, currently a citizen of Ukraine, expressed concern after returning from the hospital to a Georgian prison. The politician claims that he was poisoned there while being treated for a serious poisoning, confirmed by American and German laboratories. He accuses Russian leaders of initiating his imprisonment, noting that they have repeatedly bragged about it.

The new accusations against Saakashvili include sabotage for the benefit of hostile foreign countries, specifically Ukraine. The accusations contain statements from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the advisor to the head of the President’s Office Mykhailo Podolyak. Saakashvili notes that such actions by Georgia are part of the ongoing conflict with Russia, since the beginning of which Russian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has supported Moscow.

The politician urged Zelensky to take measures and include him in the list of civilian prisoners, emphasizing his ties with the Ukrainian government. Saakashvili, who has been a citizen of Ukraine since 2015, considers his persecution the result of political repressions by the pro-Russian regime in Georgia.

In past years, particularly in 2021 when Saakashvili was detained upon returning to Georgia, there were numerous protests and demands for the politician’s release, notably from international organizations and the government of Ukraine. President Zelensky has repeatedly called on the Georgian authorities to release Saakashvili for medical treatment, especially after his health deteriorated.
