The President of Ukraine Calls for Balance in Mobilization
President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of maintaining balance in the mobilization process while noting that the system currently meets established planned targets.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Zelensky mentioned that the issue of the number of military personnel is currently significant and complex for the state. He acknowledged that allies and the military are raising questions about increasing mobilization, but stressed the importance of a cautious approach to this process. “Maintaining balance is necessary because society must function, people need to work, pay taxes that support funding for the army,” the head of state highlighted.
The president added that such issues are discussed in military cabinet meetings. At the same time, Zelensky called on partners to understand the Ukrainian situation: “The decision of our army involves the mobilization of about 30,000 people per month, and the system copes with it.”
Discussions about mobilization arise amid military actions and support from international partners. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, law enforcement agencies are handling more than 270,000 criminal cases for unauthorized absence and desertion since the beginning of 2022, but only 5% of them have made it to court.
