Russia accuses the West of preparing an accident at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
Russia claimed the possible preparation by Kyiv and the West of sabotage at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which was met with a response from the Center for Countering Disinformation in Ukraine. They believe that these accusations are unfounded.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service disseminated information that NATO allegedly calls on Kyiv to organize sabotage at the ZNPP with casualties among Ukrainians and European citizens in order to blame the Kremlin. The Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation stated that such accusations are aimed at intimidating the population of Ukraine and European countries and may indicate possible preparation of provocation by Russia itself.
Russian special services often disseminate fake messages in advance, accusing Ukraine or the West of preparing terrorist acts to shift responsibility to the other side in the event of their own crime. Similar “predictions” have been made regarding sabotage on pipelines, terrorist acts in Europe, and attacks on critical infrastructure, but none have materialized.
The Center emphasizes that Russia bears full responsibility for the security of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, as it has occupied the station, placed military equipment at its territory, and exerts pressure on the personnel.
