Oil prices are falling due to negotiations between Iran and Oman.

Oil prices are decreasing amid negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Global oil prices continue to decline due to progress in talks between the US and Iran, which could significantly impact the global energy market.

On Thursday, August 6, Brent crude oil futures fell by 0.42%, reaching a mark of $79.12 per barrel. The price of American WTI oil dropped by 0.56% to $74.80 per barrel. The main factor exerting pressure on the market was the negotiations between Iran and Oman. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, announced the agreement of the geographical coordinates of a new sea route through the Strait of Hormuz and the completion of a joint statement.

The relevance of the event is underscored by the fact that the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic route for oil transportation, and control over it significantly affects global oil flows. According to Reuters, the agreement project provides an opportunity for Iran to exercise control over vessels entering the Persian Gulf, which could be a substantial concession for Tehran.

These negotiations have caused concerns among traders and investors, especially in light of previous reports about the attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea. Additional impact was caused by data from the US, where commercial oil reserves increased due to a rise in imports.

According to Nomura Securities economist Yuki Takashima, after reports on progress in negotiations between Iran and Oman, traders began actively selling oil, returning quotes to the levels observed in June. Now, investors are awaiting a final compromise between the US and Iran.

Oil Type Price (USD/barrel) Change (%)
Brent 79.12 -0.42%
WTI 74.80 -0.56%
