Ukraine and Romania will promote the development of alternative logistics for agricultural exports

The Romanian port of Constanta has become an important point for exporting Ukrainian grain due to restrictions on major sea routes. Ukraine and Romania are working on increasing the logistics capacities of the port to ensure the stability of agricultural product supplies.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported joint efforts with Romania to enhance the logistics capabilities of the port of Constanta. Restrictions on the use of Ukrainian ports due to Russian attacks have created a threat of overflowing elevators and grain storage facilities, which could be filled to a capacity of 59 million tons by November, and by the end of autumn, the storage capacity deficit may reach 11 million tons.

To avoid such difficulties, discussions are underway to expand the number of checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Romanian border and improve controls with the help of phytosanitary and veterinary services, which will operate around the clock. It is also planned to use floating cranes in the port of Constanta to maximize raid transshipment.

The Danube logistics corridor remains under constant threat, so Romania, along with Bulgaria and Turkey, are taking measures to ensure shipping safety. Supporting Ukrainian agricultural producers also remains a priority, with potential financing from the European Commission.

It should be noted that restrictions on the operation of Ukrainian ports in Odesa and Chornomorsk following Russian attacks could lead to losses for the Ukrainian agricultural sector in the amount of 1.5 to 3 billion dollars if significant restrictions on sea exports occur.
