International institutions informed about possible accusation of SAP head
In response to public outcry, Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies reached out to international partners, informing them about the possible indictment of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) Oleksandr Klymenko.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office sought support from international partners, warning them about the potential charge against Oleksandr Klymenko. This occurred in the context of Operation “Midas”, which is part of efforts to combat corruption in Ukraine.
Informants from LIGA.net within the anti-corruption bodies reported that external monitoring and attention could help maintain SAP’s independence in the current situation. Last month, particularly in July, public outcry played an important role when citizens rallied in support of the activities of anti-corruption agencies.
Earlier sources claimed that Ukrainian authorities might take steps against anti-corruption bodies in response to high-profile cases. In October, the Security Service of Ukraine stated that no suspicions toward Klymenko are currently being prepared.
