IT vacancies in Ukraine are filled within an average of 26 days — study

A new study by ITExpert found that the median time from opening an IT vacancy to closing it is 26 calendar days. The hiring process from the first contact to sending an offer lasts 19 days.

According to the agency’s data, the speed of closing vacancies significantly depends on the specificity and direction of the position. Vacancies for Quality Assurance (QA) specialists close the fastest, with a median time of 18 days. In contrast, the hiring process for roles in management and leadership takes the longest, with a figure of 40 days.

Most vacancies are closed within a range of 11 to 30 days. Although only 5% of positions are closed within the first 10 days, in 70% of cases, the final candidate was identified by a recruiter within these first days. If the process exceeds 43 days, it surpasses the timeframe in 75% of the sample cases, and after 62 days, it becomes part of the 10% longest closures. Nearly every fourth vacancy requires more than 40 days to close.

In the field of defense technology, the time to close vacancies is longer than in the general IT market. Here, the median Time-to-fill is 34 days, which is 31% longer, and the Time-to-hire is 27 days, which is 42% longer. These features are explained by higher requirements for candidates’ experience and more complex screening stages.

ITExpert, a Ukrainian IT recruitment agency since 2015, analyzed 274 closed IT vacancies at the Middle+ level in 79 companies and separately examined 48 vacancies in the defense technology sector.

Direction Median time to close (days)
QA 18
Management/Leadership 40
Defense Technology 34
