From the Front in Ukraine to Key Facilities: How Estonia’s PowerUP Launches Hydrogen Generators

PowerUP hydrogen generators are used in Ukraine and provide funding for development

Estonian company PowerUP, specializing in hydrogen fuel generators, actively uses its technologies in Ukraine, focusing on military needs and critical infrastructures. Recently, the company raised 10 million euros to accelerate the production and commercialization of its products.

Founded in 2016, PowerUP has become an influential player in the hydrogen technology market. It focuses on solving energy challenges by providing silent and emission-free generators, which are particularly relevant for military operations due to the absence of heat emission. As founder Ivar Kruusenberg explains, these generators are used to charge drones and replace diesel systems in Ukraine.

Despite the challenges of perception of hydrogen as a dangerous gas, the company is actively working to increase awareness and ease access to hydrogen fuel. Interest in such solutions is also growing in Europe, prompting companies to seek suitable partners to expand distribution markets.

Regarding defense applications, hydrogen generators have become a focal point in the war in Ukraine. Their silence and lack of thermal signs make them safer compared to traditional diesel solutions, which are easily detectable by drones. This provides significant advantages and enhances the safety of operations on the frontline.

PowerUP also plans to support Ukraine in rebuilding critical infrastructure after the war by working with hospitals and clinics to ensure stable power supply. In addition, the enterprise is developing collaborations in the telecommunications sector, medical facilities, and construction sites, where hydrogen generators can replace diesel fuel, meeting modern environmental standards.

Country Main Markets Main Technologies
Ukraine Military operations, critical infrastructure Hydrogen generators
Europe Civil sector, telecommunications Hydrogen solutions, information campaigns
USA Partnerships with space agencies Fuel cells for space

Raising 10 million euros allows PowerUP to strengthen its presence in European markets, expand its distributor network, and improve after-sales service. The company stimulates the development of hydrogen technologies that can significantly change existing approaches to energy supply, combining them with traditional sources to ensure safety and sustainability.
