Lack of candidates for ministerial posts in Ukraine is linked to the absence of reform guarantees
The issue with appointing new ministers of energy and justice in Ukraine is not due to a lack of candidates but due to the absence of guarantees for changing working conditions in the government. This was stated by representatives of the energy sector.
A source from the energy sector explained to LIGA.net that the key issue is that potential candidates are not willing to accept positions without public promises of change in the government led by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. “A candidate will not appear until guarantees of changing the rules of the game are publicly discussed,” noted the source, commenting on the ministerial vacancy in the energy sector.
The dismissal of the previous ministers, Anatoliy Grinchuk and Herman Halushchenko, followed an anti-corruption scandal connected with the state enterprise “Energoatom,” referred to in the media as “Mindychegate.” However, doubts about the sincerity of anti-corruption initiatives remain. The source expressed distrust towards the current government measures, noting that instead of fighting corruption, the focus is merely on replacing leaders and supervisory boards.
The appointment of new ministers requires confidence that future reforms will genuinely aim to eliminate corrupt schemes, rather than simply redistribute power. This would significantly increase the level of trust both among the candidates themselves and the public.
