The “peace plan” project from US President Donald Trump includes the creation of a demilitarized zone between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the reduction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The plan envisages that Russia will gain control over Donbas.
According to Axios, the proposed plan, consisting of 28 points, includes the transfer of Donbas to Russia, the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the countries, and the reduction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 600,000 military personnel. This figure is less than the current 800,000-850,000, but more than in peacetime, when the army consisted of approximately 250,000 personnel.
The project does not envisage the presence of NATO troops on Ukrainian territory. Control lines in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions are to remain mostly frozen. NBC News reports that Trump approved the plan as a way to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
On November 21, Axios noted that the plan includes security guarantees modeled after NATO’s Article 5, which are to be active for at least 10 years. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed receiving the plan and noted that not only Ukraine and the US, but also other partners are working on it.
