The social network Threads, owned by Meta, has reached the milestone of 500 million active users monthly. On this occasion, the company announced a series of new features to enhance user interaction and content personalization.
Meta emphasizes that the growth in the popularity of Threads is due to user communities coming together around various topics, from music to parenting. Among the main innovations is the completion of the testing phase of communities, which will now function fully. The company also introduced several new tools to facilitate user interaction with communities. Among them are the Communities Hub section for switching between communities and the Community Icons for quick organization of topics.
To draw attention to popular topics, a Community Progress indicator and a Community Champions program have been introduced to recognize active participants. The “Local Communities” feature will allow the creation of localized communities with tag support in native languages, starting with Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
In addition to the above, in the coming weeks, the company plans to expand access to Live Chats for more users. The introduced features include quoting individual messages to make interaction in the recommendation feed more informative.
A key update is the Your Algo tool, which will allow users to customize the topics displayed in their recommendation feed. Users will be able to specify which topics they want to see more or less of and choose the duration of the setting—one, three, or seven days. Users in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand will be the first to use Your Algo.
