Ukrainian drones attacked Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea
The Security Service of Ukraine struck Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea for the second time in a week, disrupting production processes.
According to a source in law enforcement, the platforms named after Filanovsky and Korchagin, owned by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft, were hit during the attack. Both platforms, located in the Caspian Sea, sustained damage to critical equipment, leading to a halt in their operations. This is the second attack on the Filanovsky platform in a short period, carried out using drones by the “Alpha” Special Operations Center.
The Filanovsky oil field is one of the largest discoveries in Russia; its reserves are estimated at 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas.
Previously, on December 11, Ukraine first halted the operation of a Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea and the following day struck two Russian vessels off the coast of Kalmykia.
Experts note that these attacks indicate the systematic work of the Security Service of Ukraine, aimed at reducing Russia’s income from the oil sector in the context of ongoing aggression. According to them, the precision and frequency of these strikes signal the scale of Ukraine’s response.
| Platform | Owner | Location | Oil Reserves | Gas Reserves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Filanovsky | Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft | Caspian Sea | 129 million tons | 30 billion cubic meters |
