Ending the war in Ukraine could be a challenge for the defense industry
The military conflict between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing, and the end of the war, even in the case of peace agreements, could become a new challenge for Ukraine’s defense industry complex.
President Volodymyr Zelensky insists that the strength of the Ukrainian Armed Forces should be 800,000 military personnel even after the war. This assertion is a key element in the peace plan aimed at ensuring national security in the long term. However, even if the army is reduced to 400,000, the financial support for such a large number of soldiers in peacetime will become a burden for the country.
This situation requires the government to review the defense sector development strategy, which may experience significant changes after the end of active hostilities. Experts agree that Ukraine should work on modernizing its military forces and improving existing infrastructure to remain competitive on the global stage.
Important aspects of development will be seeking new markets for Ukrainian defense exports and investing in research and development projects. This will help adapt to new conditions and minimize financial pressure in the event of reduced government funding.
