The Security Service of Ukraine neutralized over 16,000 Russian cyberattacks since the start of the full-scale invasion. A significant portion of these attacks targeted Ukrainian media.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Cybersecurity Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has successfully identified and neutralized over 16,000 Russian cyberattacks and critical cyber incidents. According to the head of the department, Volodymyr Karastelov, the activity of Russian hackers increased significantly after February 2022.

Among the most noticeable attacks was a large-scale DDoS attack in 2026, which reached up to 200,000 requests per minute through nodes in Asia, Europe, and the USA. The target was one of Ukraine’s nationwide TV channels, which experienced this load for three hours. A year earlier, another media group fell victim to a phishing campaign and attempts to penetrate information and communication systems through adjacent infrastructure.

The SBU, in collaboration with the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, developed a project to enhance the cyber resilience of media, aiming to equip editorial offices with the capability to independently detect threats and protect their digital resources.

According to CERT-UA, nearly 6,000 cyber incidents were recorded in 2025, a 37.4% increase compared to the previous year. Local government bodies received the most attacks, accounting for 35.7% of incidents. Meanwhile, there was an increase in hacker activity in the medical and IT sectors.

Attack methods include the distribution of malware and phishing, the latter doubling over the year to 1,727 cases. Growing concerns arise regarding new trends in cyber warfare, which are becoming a major threat to all sectors of society.
