Spain allocates over 600 million euros to support Ukraine
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the decision to allocate over 600 million euros for military and financial assistance to Ukraine. The new package will include the supply of defense equipment and support for the initiative to purchase American weapons.
Spain will allocate 615 million euros to Ukraine for military assistance in the near future, which is part of a broader bilateral security agreement worth 1 billion euros. According to Prime Minister Sanchez, 300 million euros of this amount will be directed towards new defense equipment. Among other things, the package will include missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems.
The core of the initiative will be a contribution of 100 million euros to the PURL program – an innovation aimed at purchasing American weapons for Ukraine. At the same time, Spain will direct 215 million euros through the SAFE instrument, created by the European Commission, which will allow financing the production of counter-UAV systems, radars, and air surveillance equipment.
Sanchez also announced the creation of a new financial instrument worth 200 million euros for Ukraine’s recovery. This instrument will be coordinated by the newly established Spanish Office for Ukraine’s Reconstruction, opened two months ago, which will help Spanish companies actively participate in rebuilding Ukrainian infrastructure.
