The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the company SpaceX, began cooperation to resolve the issue of Russian drones using Starlink satellite communication. This was in response to the discovery of cases of drone management using this service.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov reported that after the discovery of Russian drones with Starlink, the Ministry of Defense promptly contacted SpaceX, offering technical solutions to address the issue. The SpaceX team quickly responded by beginning work on the submitted proposals.
The minister emphasized the importance of using Western technologies to protect civilians, stressing that they should not be used as a means of terror or to destroy cities. This cooperation becomes relevant after January 15, 2026, when Defense Minister’s adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov first reported the case of managing a Russian drone using Starlink satellite internet.
The incident was a wake-up call for both sides, as technologies developed to improve communication and living conditions should not be used for military purposes threatening civilian life. Experts believe that the solution found as a result of this cooperation could be an important step in ensuring safety at an international level.
