The General Staff clarified the results of the strike on the “Kapustin Yar” training ground, from where Russia launches “Oreshnik”.

Ukrainian strikes on the Russian “Kapustin Yar” range damaged the missile complexes’ infrastructure.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported damage to facilities at the “Kapustin Yar” range, located in the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation. Specifically, the medium-range ballistic missile servicing structure and assembly building were affected.

This range is one of the key sites for missile testing in Russia. It was established in 1946 as the main center for Soviet ballistic missile testing and later became critical for testing air defense systems and spacecraft.

It is known that Ukraine used domestically-produced “Flamingo” cruise missiles for a series of successful strikes on the range’s infrastructure on February 5. In addition to the technical facilities, a logistics supply warehouse was also hit.

This event occurs against a backdrop of complicated relations between Ukraine and Russia, exacerbated by a Russian missile strike on the Lviv region on January 9, 2026. At that time, Russia acknowledged the second-ever use of the “Oreshnik” ballistic missile against Ukraine.
