G7 welcomes support for Zelensky’s anti-corruption reforms for EU and NATO membership
Ambassadors of the Group of Seven (G7) countries expressed their support to President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding his readiness to cooperate with NABU and SAP in conducting independent anti-corruption investigations. This is crucial for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
The G7 ambassadors’ mission statement mentioned Zelensky’s positive reaction to the “Midas” operation conducted by anti-corruption agencies and emphasized the importance of continuing reforms that are key to Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO. Amid ongoing Russian attacks, partners also confirmed their support for Ukraine’s energy resilience.
The G7 countries are major financial donors to Ukraine, accounting for a significant portion of the state budget. Under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) initiative, they pledged to allocate $50 billion to Ukraine in 2025-2026. The G7 ambassadors’ mission includes diplomatic representatives of the member states (USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, and Japan) and the European Union ambassador Katarina Mathernova.
On November 10, the day of the “Midas” operation, Zelensky expressed support for the inevitability of punishment for corruption. Later, he approved the dismissal of Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk and her predecessor, the current Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko, as well as announced sanctions against case participants – Tymur Mindich and Oleksandr Tsukerman. The restrictions were imposed the next day.
The president stated that since the announcement of the anti-corruption investigation, he had not contacted his former business partner and friend Mindich. Earlier at a court hearing, a SAP prosecutor cited a conversation where President Zelensky called Halushchenko after receiving an SMS from Mindich.
On November 15, Zelensky and the government determined the procedure for updating the leadership of key state energy companies following the “Midas” operation.
