The coming days will be difficult, and electricity in Kyiv will be limited to two hours: Ministry of Economic Development on the system situation

A massive shelling by Russia left Ukraine in a difficult energy situation

As a result of the massive shelling of Ukraine by Russia, the situation in the country’s energy system remains critical. Kyiv is facing limited electricity supply.

After the large-scale attack on February 7, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported difficulties that arose due to damage to energy facilities in several regions. As a result, nuclear power plants were forced to be unloaded, and emergency power outages continue in many regions. In Kyiv itself, power supply to residents is carried out only for a short period — one and a half to two hours a day.

The energy holding DTEK notes that the system operates with maximum restrictions, and the usual electricity supply schedules do not apply. This has led to a significant electricity deficit, which is extremely difficult to compensate. Additional support points are rapidly deployed in the capital to help residents survive the crisis.

The attack by Russia on February 7 involved 408 drones and 39 missiles, of which the Ukrainian defenders managed to neutralize 382 drones and 24 missiles. The occupiers targeted strikes at the infrastructure that ensures the operation of nuclear power plants, particularly substations and power lines. This led to a decrease in generation at Ukrainian NPPs, and one of the units was automatically shut down.

In addition, the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir TPPs were attacked. Specialists are working on the fastest possible restoration of damaged facilities to return light and heat to consumers.

Date Type of attack Number of attack means Number neutralized
February 7 Missiles 39 24
February 7 Drones 408 382
