Sweden provides 124 million euros to support Ukraine’s energy system.

Sweden additionally transferred 124.1 million euros to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund

Sweden increased its contribution to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund by 124.1 million euros, raising the total donation to over 386 million euros.

This contribution was an important step in supporting the Ukrainian energy system, which suffered from Russian aggression. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine noted that the total contributions to the Fund, which was established to support the energy infrastructure, amount to over 2 billion euros from 39 foreign sponsors from 26 countries and three international organizations. Before the receipts from Sweden, the funding deficit exceeded 663 million euros, which then significantly decreased but remains substantial.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, emphasized the importance of Swedish support, especially in the context of preparation for the heating season. The new funding will be directed at purchasing critical equipment that will help in the recovery of destroyed infrastructure.

Despite significant international help, Ukraine still requires additional resources for the complete restoration of the energy system. Therefore, the Ukrainian government is counting on further support from international donors. The Energy Support Fund of Ukraine allows governments, international financial institutions and organizations, as well as private donors to provide financial support for the stable operation of the energy sector.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky warned about possible staffing changes for regions that do not meet the schedule for preparing the energy system for winter. Despite everything, the state is actively working on improving readiness for the autumn-winter period.
