US predicts Ukraine’s GDP to surpass Russia’s in ten years
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that with the right economic reforms, Ukraine’s GDP could exceed Russia’s GDP within the next decade.
In his interview with Fox News, Marco Rubio emphasized Ukraine’s potential for economic prosperity post-war. He noted that achieving this goal requires “the right steps” to significantly accelerate the country’s economic development. According to him, US support for Ukraine is driven not by the war but by a belief in the country’s ability to recover and grow.
The economic forecast for Ukraine, provided by the World Bank, indicates that economic growth in 2026 will remain at current levels at 2%. Accelerated growth to 5% is expected only in 2027. Meanwhile, according to the National Bank of Ukraine, in the second quarter of 2025, economic growth slowed: real GDP increased by only 0.7% year-on-year compared to 0.9% in the first quarter.
It should be noted that such US policy aligns with the aspirations of international partners to stimulate Ukraine’s economic recovery, as this could have strategic significance for regional stability. Experts claim that this ambitious plan could secure Ukraine a dominant position in the post-Soviet space and significantly strengthen its international standing.
