In the Zakarpattia region, law enforcement officers detained a lieutenant colonel of the Ministry of Defense suspected of organizing the illegal transfer of military-aged men to Europe. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine, the detainee has been charged with illegal transfer of persons across the state border.
The investigation claims that the detainee is the deputy head of one of the military representations of the Ministry of Defense. Using a service vehicle with flashing lights, he helped avoid checks at checkpoints and transported men to the state border, from where they could cross into Romania through mountainous wooded terrain. The cost of such services was 7500 euros per person. The lieutenant colonel was detained in Uzhgorod while receiving part of the funds.
The official has been charged under the article on illegal transfer of persons across the state border. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 908,000 hryvnias.
This detention is part of a broader fight against the illegal transfer of men abroad. For example, on July 29, a group was exposed offering border crossing under the guise of truck drivers and tourists. On August 13, more than 150 searches were conducted as part of a special operation to block transfer channels, and on September 29, the State Bureau of Investigation uncovered the activities of border guards in Zakarpattia who sold information to evaders.
