OpenAI and Broadcom Announce Partnership to Create AI Accelerators with 10-Gigawatt Power Output
OpenAI and Broadcom have joined forces to develop new artificial intelligence accelerators with a total power output of 10 gigawatts. This strategic alliance aims to meet the growing demand for AI technologies worldwide.
OpenAI will design the architecture of future chips and systems, while Broadcom will be responsible for their manufacturing and the provision of network infrastructure. The first server racks with the new solutions are expected to be deployed in the second half of 2026, with full implementation to be completed by the end of 2029. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed at this time.
In a press release, OpenAI emphasized that, together with tech giants like Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom, the total power the company plans to utilize will reach 26 gigawatts. This significantly enhances OpenAI’s capabilities in AI development.
“Partnering with Broadcom is a critical step in building the infrastructure needed to realize the potential of AI to benefit businesses and society,” noted Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI.
Charlie Kawwas, President of Broadcom Semiconductor Solutions Group, added that their collaboration with OpenAI will help set new standards for open, scalable, and energy-efficient AI systems. This will make breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence more frequent and bring the realization of its full potential closer.
Following the news of the deal, Broadcom shares rose by over 9%, indicating investor confidence in the collaboration’s prospects.
It should be noted that OpenAI has already secured contracts with companies such as NVIDIA, AMD, Oracle, and CoreWeave, amounting to about $1 trillion, to ensure the necessary computing power for the development of its models, including ChatGPT. These agreements are estimated to provide the company with access to over 20 gigawatts of computing power over the next decade.
