NABU accused the Prosecutor General’s Office of illegal search of its employee
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) stated that a search was conducted on its employee by the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) and the use of physical force during the search without proper legitimate documents.
According to official information from NABU, around three o’clock in the morning on November 4, prosecutors from the OPG allegedly conducted a search of a Bureau employee with the support of special forces, claiming that no official suspicion was raised against him, and the search took place without a court order. The probable motive for the prosecutors’ actions is said to be the professional duties of the employee, who participated in documenting several anti-corruption cases.
Additionally, representatives of NABU stated that covert surveillance was organized on the employee before the search event. Currently, all circumstances of the incident and the people involved are being established.
In a comment to the publication LIGA.net, a source from the OPG reported that it was the NABU employee who organized surveillance of the prosecutor’s office employees, which was discovered by state security. During the search, the employee confirmed his affiliation with NABU and stated that he was carrying out his leadership’s tasks.
This incident occurred amid recent events, such as the detention of an employee of the Prosecutor General’s Office on October 9 on suspicion of bribery amounting to $3.5 million, which raised doubts about the objectivity of the investigation. On October 20, searches were also reported on the relatives of a detective involved in high-profile cases, which was confirmed by the Security Service of Ukraine.
