Seven cash couriers from Ukraine, detained in Budapest, have returned home. They have already crossed the Ukrainian border and received assistance from consuls.
The detention involved two cash transit vehicles of the Oshchadbank service with Ukrainian employees on board. According to the statements of specific officials, the Hungarian side blocked access for Ukrainian consuls to the detainees. After long negotiations and with the support of diplomats, the seven men have returned — this was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha.
The European Commission refused to comment on the incident, which underscores the delicacy of relations between Ukraine and Hungary. The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the detention. The situation raised the question of the transit of Ukrainian goods through Hungarian territory; one of the reasons for the detention could have been an attempt by Orban to force Ukraine to comply with the conditions for launching the Druzhba pipeline.
