Ukrenergo promises stabilization of electricity supply after mass attacks on the grid
The situation in Ukraine’s power system remains difficult after recent attacks, but in some regions, it has been possible to reduce the volume of restrictions thanks to the work of energy specialists. Emergency outages cannot be canceled in most areas yet.
The national energy company “Ukrenergo” reported that on Sunday, parts of Ukrainian regions observed a lower volume of restrictions compared to Saturday. This became possible due to the ongoing work of specialists who are engaged in restoring the energy system after large-scale attacks during the week.
The attacks caused significant damage to the transmission and distribution infrastructure, keeping the balance of supply and demand for electricity at a critical level. Restoration of the system continues both at power plants and at high-voltage substations, which provide power to nuclear power plants. “Ukrenergo” notes that nuclear generation is still operating with limitations.
The emergency outage schedules published earlier remain valid, as the power deficit level is still high. However, a return to planned restriction schedules is expected immediately after the situation stabilizes.
On the night of February 7, attacks occurred using drones and cruise missiles, mainly affecting the western regions of Ukraine. According to reports, Russian forces used over 400 drones and about 40 different types of missiles. Substations, power lines, as well as the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants, were hit.
