Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov received a prestigious award from the Directors Guild of America
Ukrainian filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov became a laureate of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award 2025 for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for his film “2,000 Meters to Andriivka”.
Chernov is receiving this award for the second time: in 2023, he was honored for the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol”. His latest work, “2,000 Meters to Andriivka”, tells about the intense battles of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the counteroffensive near Bakhmut in 2023. The film documents the soldiers’ journey through a mined forest strip to liberate the village of Andriivka, highlighting the real stories of the fighters and their daily lives under the harsh conditions of the trenches.
The Ukrainian Film Academy also congratulated Chernov on this victory, emphasizing that such achievements indicate a high level of development of Ukrainian cinema on the world stage.
The Directors Guild of America Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of cinematography, given since 1948 for outstanding achievements in directorial craftsmanship. Its laureates are determined by the voting of thousands of guild members from around the world. The traditional award ceremony took place in Los Angeles, highlighting the significance of this event in the cultural life of Hollywood.
