Anthropic is preparing for an IPO, outpacing OpenAI
Anthropic has filed a confidential request with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering (IPO), which could happen as early as this fall. This step allows the company to avoid public disclosure of financial information at the initial stage.
Filing for an IPO is the initial stage of preparing a company to enter the stock market, but the actual offering depends on market conditions and other factors. The number of shares and their price have not yet been determined. According to reports from the New York Times, Anthropic has outpaced its main competitor, OpenAI, which is also considering going public.
Anthropic is an artificial intelligence company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers. It is known for its product, the chatbot Claude, which is available on cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. AWS is the company’s main cloud services partner. It is planned that in 2026 Anthropic will open public access to its Mythos-class models capable of automatically finding critical vulnerabilities in software code. Importantly, these models are already used by the U.S. National Security Agency despite previous risks highlighted by the Pentagon.
In May this year, Anthropic raised $65 billion as part of its Series H funding round, increasing the company’s market valuation to $965 billion.
