First Winter Support Payments: Millions of Ukrainians Have Already Received 1000 Hryvnias
In Ukraine, the first payments under the “Winter Support” program have begun. Almost 2 million citizens have already received 1000 hryvnias each. More than 10 million Ukrainians have submitted applications for participation.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated that the first payments for applications submitted from November 15 have started. According to her statement, 1.7 million adult Ukrainians have already benefited from the program, in addition to 253 thousand payments made for children. The program provides for a one-time cash assistance of 1000 hryvnias.
The received funds can be spent by citizens until the end of June next year on utility bills, purchasing medicines, Ukrainian products (excluding excise goods), books, as well as donations or postal services. Applications for receiving assistance are accepted until December 24.
The “Winter Support” program was officially presented on November 15, following an announcement by President Volodymyr Zelensky at the beginning of the month. It is one of the measures aimed at supporting citizens during the challenging winter period.
Experts note that such an initiative can significantly ease the financial burden on citizens amid rising tariffs and prices. Meanwhile, critics point out that the aid is insufficient to address deeper economic problems.
