The European Commissioner warned of risks for Ukraine’s EU accession due to pressure on anti-corruption bodies
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that political and legislative pressure on anti-corruption institutions in Ukraine could slow down the country’s accession process to the European Union unless appropriate measures are urgently taken.
Marta Kos emphasized in an interview with LIGA.net the importance of addressing the issue of pressure on anti-corruption bodies and civil society in Ukraine. When asked how closely Brussels is monitoring events surrounding Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies, Kos did not provide a specific answer but noted that such actions could undermine confidence in the EU accession process.
Meanwhile, high-ranking officials from anti-corruption agencies reported that NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) informed international partners about the possible notification of suspicion to SAP Head Klymenko following the new “Midas” operation.
Ambassadors of the G7 countries also commented on this investigation, noting President Zelensky’s reaction and emphasizing the importance of implementing reforms for EU and NATO accession. This underscores the significance of adhering to anti-corruption standards and continuing reforms in this field.
