In Volgograd and Samara on the night of November 16, numerous explosions were recorded, which, according to local authorities, were the result of drone attacks, but there are no official confirmations.
Near Volgograd and Volzhsky around midnight, a series of explosions were heard. According to the local telegram channel Exilenova+, due to the malfunction of the anti-aircraft defense system, residential buildings were damaged for the second time in a week. The Volgograd city administration confirmed the presence of damage in the Dzerzhinsky and Traktorozavodsky districts, but information about the injured remains unconfirmed. There are also reports of several strikes on the Lukoil oil refinery.
In Samara, as local residents testify, dozens of explosions were heard, but there were no official comments from the authorities. According to unconfirmed data, the Novokuybyshevsky refinery and an electrical substation were attacked.
Due to the incidents, the operations of the airports in Volgograd and Samara were temporarily suspended: from 18:30 on November 15 to 05:11 on November 16 for Volgograd airport and from 22:12 to 04:10 for Samara. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that air defense systems shot down 23 drones over the Samara region and 17 over Volgograd.
These attacks occurred against the backdrop of a recent strike on the Ryazan oil refinery, one of the four largest in Russia. According to sources, during the attack on Novorossiysk, the Ukrainian SBU destroyed four S-400 launchers and important radars.
