The U.S. Vice President defends Trump’s talks with Putin
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance dismissed journalists’ criticism regarding the talks between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that such dialogue is necessary for conflict resolution.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance emphasized that while it’s not advisable to agree with Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine, remaining strong and open to negotiations is crucial for achieving peace. From his perspective, active and aggressive diplomacy is the key to resolving the conflict.
Vance also noted that Trump’s doctrine includes maintaining the world’s strongest military to preserve peace while not adhering to journalists’ directives regarding diplomatic meetings. In his opinion, in the realm of foreign policy, the U.S. hasn’t had a president who could match Trump in the last generation.
Additionally, on October 16, Trump had a phone conversation with Putin, during which Russia’s war against Ukraine was discussed, and a meeting in Budapest was agreed upon within two weeks. However, on October 23, Trump announced the cancellation of this summit, stating that the meeting would take place in the future.
This event attracted attention as talks with Putin are the subject of many discussions in political and media circles. Some experts believe that any opportunity for dialogue can help resolve the conflict, while others argue that such talks may be perceived as a sign of weakness.
