Ukraine has received over 144,000 inquiries from families of those missing in the war with the occupiers.

In October, Ukraine confirmed the captivity of 159 invaders, including citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Egypt. Every day, hundreds of families of Russian military personnel apply to the “I Want to Find” project to search for their loved ones.

According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, by the beginning of November, 144,138 appeals had been received from the families of the missing. The significant number of inquiries indicates that the official statistics do not reflect the real number of missing Russian soldiers, as not all families seek help.

The “I Want to Find” project allows relatives to confirm the status of a captive or deceased. Since the project’s launch in January 2024, the captivity of 3,017 Russian soldiers in Ukraine has been confirmed, of which 1,922 have already been exchanged. In October of this year, among the confirmed captives were not only Russians but also citizens of other countries, which indicates the international character of the conflict’s involvement.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian authorities continue to ignore significant losses and the number of missing among their military. This forces relatives to independently search for their loved ones with the help of the project.

Analysts note that this situation highlights deficiencies in Russia’s policy towards military personnel and the lack of proper accounting of losses, which may have long-term consequences for the country.
