Ukrainian company Swarmer is preparing to enter the Japanese market.

Swarmer collaborates with Rakuten to enter the Japanese market

Swarmer is starting a collaboration with Japan’s Rakuten Group to implement its autonomous drone control systems in Japan. This partnership opens up vast opportunities for the application of high technology in research, security, infrastructure, and industry.

Swarmer, known for its innovations in swarm drone control, has long established itself in the international market. Its CEO, Serhiy Kupriienko, emphasizes that Japan is an ideal environment for robotic solutions due to its high technological prowess. He noted that collaborating with Rakuten Group will help scale Swarmer’s intelligent systems by employing advanced Japanese technology.

As of 2025, Swarmer raised $15 million in a Series A round. This investment became the largest for a Ukrainian defense technology company since the war began. In 2026, the company went public on the Nasdaq, becoming the first Ukrainian DefTech company with publicly traded shares. Analysts say that Swarmer’s entry into the Japanese market could foster further investment growth and enhance the company’s image as an international leader in robotics.

Rakuten Group’s initiative is also not coincidental. The Japanese corporation has already established itself as a developer and investor in the technology sector, closely engaging with Ukrainian startups through programs like the Ukraine Defense Tech Initiative. This underscores the strategic importance of collaborating with companies like Swarmer to support defense technology initiatives in the region.
