The US has approved the sale of JDAM-ER bombs to Ukraine for $373.6 million.
The US Department of State has approved the sale of precision air bombs JDAM-ER and accompanying equipment to Ukraine for a total of $373.6 million, which will help strengthen the country’s defense capability.
According to the US Department of State, the Ukrainian side had previously requested the purchase of 1,200 tail kits for KMU-572 JDAM munitions and 332 tail kits for KMU-556 JDAM munitions. The order also included accompanying equipment and services such as FMU-139 fuze systems, auxiliary equipment for JDAM systems, spare parts, software, and technical documentation. Transport support, as well as engineering and logistics support, will be provided by the US government and contractors.
The main contractor of this deal will be Boeing, which will carry out the modernization of conventional bombs into those with all-weather guidance capabilities thanks to inertial navigation and GPS. Additionally, JDAM can be equipped with sophisticated wings, turning them into cruise bombs.
This decision is key to strengthening Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future threats, enhancing the reliability of air defense. The importance of support is also confirmed by the fact that the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, known as “Ramstein,” brings together over 50 countries that have already provided more than $150 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
