Halushchenko is suspected in the “Midas” case

Former Energy Minister Galushchenko Charged with Money Laundering

Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies have accused Herman Galushchenko of being involved in a major corruption scheme related to money laundering and participating in a criminal organization known as the “Midas” case.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced that former Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, who headed the ministry from 2021 to 2025, is implicated in the large-scale corruption scheme. The investigation believes that Galushchenko’s main role was to facilitate transnational money laundering through trust and investment structures registered in Anguilla, the Seychelles, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The suspect used offshore companies to conceal his assets and launder over $112 million of illegal proceeds. The funds were legalized through investment funds and cryptocurrency. Some of the money was transferred to accounts managed by the Galushchenko family, including for the education of children in Swiss institutions.

The investigation claims that more than $7.4 million was transferred to the Galushchenko family, in addition to 1.3 million Swiss francs and 2.4 million euros in cash.

During the searches conducted in November 2025, NABU deployed all resources to investigate corruption in the state company “Energoatom” and uncovered cases of systematic wrongful extortion by company executives.

This high-profile anti-corruption operation culminated in the arrest of Herman Galushchenko in February 2026 as he attempted to leave the country.
