$1.5 million per employee: OpenAI offers unprecedented compensation in history

OpenAI increases stock compensation amid growing AI competition

In response to heightened competition in the artificial intelligence market, OpenAI is offering some of the highest stock compensations in the industry. By 2025, average payouts to employees could reach $1.5 million.

According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is allocating significant resources to stock compensation to enhance the attractiveness of working at their company. This decision is linked to the growing demand for specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and the need to retain the best talent. Compared to other large tech enterprises, OpenAI’s stock rewards are among the highest, significantly exceeding the compensations offered by companies like Meta and Salesforce.

OpenAI not only increased stock compensations but also simplified the process of obtaining them by eliminating the requirement to work for more than six months before stock vesting begins. This is a significant advantage in the talent war, as they seek competitive and attractive workplaces. Such an approach could provide OpenAI with prospects in the form of increased loyalty and productivity from employees.

It is forecasted that OpenAI’s compensation expenses may rise to $3 billion per year by 2030. This presents a challenge for many companies in the sector as competitive conditions intensify and the future of AI becomes increasingly commercially significant.

Year Average stock compensation per employee Total compensation expenses
2025 $1.5 million
2030 (forecast) $3 billion
