Zelensky: Europe must find a common strategy for talks with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged European leaders to coordinate in negotiating with Russia, emphasizing the danger of the “divide and conquer” strategy that Moscow might employ.

Speaking at a briefing in Munich, Zelensky stressed the importance of a unified European strategy when communicating with the Russian leadership. The president mentioned that French President Emmanuel Macron, who actively supports Ukraine, expressed willingness to renew dialogue with Vladimir Putin and considers it an important political step. However, Zelensky warned that these talks could be used by the Russian side to deepen divisions among European countries.

Zelensky approaches the dialogue issue cautiously and believes that efforts must be made to involve the U.S. in peace negotiations. According to the president, this will increase the chances of successfully ending the war. Macron, meanwhile, has repeatedly emphasized that Europe must find a way to renew direct dialogue with Moscow.

Analysts caution that any unsynchronized activity in negotiations with Russia could lead to a weakening of the overall European stance on sanctions and other pressure tools against the Kremlin.
