Negotiations between the US and Russia in Florida: positive developments in the peace process
The US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, following meetings with the Russian President’s special representative Kirill Dmitriev in Florida, described the negotiations as productive and constructive. The meetings took place amidst efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.
During his speech on network X, Witkoff emphasized that Russia remains fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine and highly values the support of the US in resolving the Ukrainian conflict and restoring global security. According to him, the American delegation included Jared Kushner and White House staffer Josh Grunbaum, alongside himself.
Kirill Dmitriev, in turn, hinted at the possibility of holding the next meeting in Moscow, stating: “Thank you, Miami. Next time: Moscow”.
Additionally, Witkoff noted that meetings were held with the Ukrainian delegation, during which issues regarding the development of a 20-point plan, agreement on positions on a multilateral security guarantee system, and Ukraine’s economic development were discussed. The Ukrainian delegation, led by Rustem Umerov, considered the timelines and sequence of further steps.
The meetings in Florida were an essential stage in separate negotiation processes involving the US, Ukraine, Russia, and European partners. Such dialogues may contribute to establishing a stronger foundation for peaceful conflict resolution.
