Ukraine has prepared five nuclear power plant units for winter

Ukraine has completed planned repairs on five nuclear power plant units, reducing the timeframe by 21 days

Ukraine’s nuclear power plants have successfully completed planned repairs on five units, reducing the overall duration of the works by 21 days. This will allow the power system to provide additional electricity generation during the heating season, reports Energoatom.

According to the company’s official information, planned repairs with nuclear fuel reloading have been completed on five nuclear power plant units, repairs on two hydroelectric units of pumped storage stations, one hydroelectric unit of a hydroelectric power station, and a mobile gas turbine unit. Simultaneously, work continues on other units and hydroelectric units. Energoatom states that there are plans to ensure maximum efficiency of nine nuclear power units in the government-controlled territory during the winter.

Ukraine has already passed the halfway point of the repair campaign, and another nuclear unit has been connected to the power grid after completing scheduled preventive maintenance. The situation in Ukrainian nuclear power plants remains challenging, as stated by the Director-General of the IAEA, but he noted the importance of the completed works.

The acceleration of repairs before the start of the heating season is a significant positive for the country’s power system. Reducing the timeframes of the works means the possibility of providing additional electricity reserves for critical periods of winter demand, which will help avoid network overload and possible disruptions.
