Ukrainian drones from the Special Operations Center “Alpha” struck the Filanovsky oil platform, owned by the Russian company “Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.” This is the first instance in history of Ukraine targeting Russian oil infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.
According to a source from LIGA.net, the attack occurred several days ago and resulted in at least four hits on the sea platform. As a result, oil and gas production from more than 20 wells serviced by the platform stopped.
The Filanovsky oil field is one of the largest discovered in Russia and in the Russian sector of the Caspian, with reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The extracted products were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
On November 29, this consortium, which exports oil from Kazakhstan through a terminal in Novorossiysk, reported the loss of one berth due to an attack by unmanned vessels. Nevertheless, according to Reuters, oil export through the terminal continued.
This attack may have a significant impact on oil supplies and raise concerns in global markets. Experts note that the shutdown of such a key facility could potentially affect supply volumes and energy resource prices.
