Ukraine and Poland continue to cooperate in the search and commemoration of World War II victims. Recently, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine granted permission to the Polish side to conduct new search works in the Lviv region.
According to the Ministry of Culture, a joint Ukrainian-Polish expedition will be engaged in searching and localizing the burial sites of residents of the village of Huta Peniatska, who died during World War II. This village has partially become part of the villages of Zharkiv and Holubytsia in the Zolochiv district of the Lviv region. The statement on granting permission from the Polish side was received on February 16.
The expedition aims to establish the exact locations of mass graves. In the case of finding remains, exhumation work and subsequent reburial will be conducted. The planned actions are part of a broader cooperation program between Ukraine and Poland in the search for victims of wars and conflicts.
It should be noted that in 2026, both countries also plan to conduct search works in the village of Uhly in the Rivne region and continue investigations in the territory of Poland in the spring. Representatives of both states recently exchanged lists of places for future exhumation works. For instance, in the Ternopil region, the exhumation of remains of Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy was recently completed, and in Lviv, works were carried out on the reburial of the remains of Polish Army soldiers.
