Unprecedented Use of Missiles in the Middle East: Ukraine Lags Behind in Aid Volume
During the war in the Middle East, over 800 Patriot missiles were used in a few days, while Ukraine received significantly less of this aid over four years of conflict. This was reported by the advisor to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Dmytro Lytvyn.
According to Lytvyn, Ukraine has received around 600 Patriot missiles from partners throughout the war, which is 200 missiles fewer than were used in a few days during the Israeli-American operation. It became known that in the Middle East, the missiles were used against Iranian drones and ballistic missiles. This level of military resource use surprised experts, who called it “the equivalent of using a bazooka to kill a fly.”
Due to the high cost of Patriot missiles, which exceed 3 million dollars, Ukraine has been forced to adapt and develop its own solutions. The Ukrainian side began using cheaper means, such as pickets, electronic jammers, and domestically produced interceptor drones to protect against “Shahed” drones.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, decided to offer drones in exchange for missiles for air defense systems. Soon, Ukrainian experts will head to the Middle East to discuss the possibility of such an exchange and assist in protecting American bases in Jordan.
| Country | Patriot Missiles (received) | Usage Time |
|---|---|---|
| Ukraine | 600 | 4 years |
| Israeli-American Operation | 800+ | A few days |
