Spotify introduces AI Persona label for AI artist accounts
Spotify has announced the introduction of a new AI Persona label to be applied to musical profiles created using artificial intelligence. This will help users more clearly identify digital representations of artists.
Spotify aims to increase platform transparency to avoid confusion between artificial creations and real artists. The AI Persona label will be visible in the profile banner, the “About the Artist” section, in searches, and next to tracks in playlists. Music from such accounts will not be included in editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default until listeners subscribe to the respective profiles.
AI profile identification will be done through voluntary declarations by authors on the Spotify for Artists platform or through moderation. Artists subject to mandatory labeling will be given the opportunity to appeal. In the future, listeners will also be able to report suspicious profiles themselves.
Spotify already uses other tools to identify AI content, such as AI Credits and SongDNA. Additionally, the company conducts checks for profile authenticity, protection against third-party add-ons and plagiarism, and excludes low-quality content from recommendation algorithms. These measures are designed to improve content quality and build audience trust.
Other major tech companies are also introducing labeling for AI-generated content. For example, Google has begun marking ads generated or edited using artificial intelligence, while Meta labels such ads with an AI info icon. Meanwhile, Anthropic uses invisible watermarks to identify text created by Claude.
| Company | AI Content Labeling Methods |
