Serhiy Flesch suggested that Russia used Shaheds against Starlink for the first time – video

Russia used Starlink satellite internet to control “Shaheds” near Kropyvnytskyi

On the morning of January 24, Russian forces attacked helicopters in the Kropyvnytskyi area using “Shahed” drones. Experts suggest that satellite communication terminals of Starlink were used for this attack for the first time.

Renowned military expert Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense on technological matters, stated that he considers the attack evidence of using satellite internet to direct “Shaheds” strikes. Beskrestnov noted that the drones flew at a low altitude to evade radar detection.

According to the head of the regional military administration Andrii Raikovych, air defense forces were able to neutralize the threat in time, and the attack had no serious consequences. Analysts believe that the use of satellite technology might pose new challenges for Ukrainian forces amid ongoing military aggression. Satellite communication systems provide new opportunities for remote control and attack coordination, complicating defensive measures.

It was previously reported that Russia is actively modernizing its drones, using artificial intelligence and other modern technologies. This incident could signal the initial stage of implementing new tactics in the so-called “Shahed” raids, which the Russian army is likely to continue using in the future.

Here are some key points:

Event Date: January 24, 2026
Location of Attack: Kirovohrad region, area of Kropyvnytskyi
Main Participants: Russian forces, Ukrainian air defense forces
Type of Use: Starlink satellite internet
