Two TCC Officials Arrested in Zaporizhzhia Region for Extorting Bribe from Veteran
In the Zaporizhzhia region, two officials from various Territorial Recruitment Centers and Social Support (TCC) were arrested on suspicion of extorting a bribe from a war veteran. Their criminal activity involved demanding $2000 for registering the veteran for military service.
The State Bureau of Investigation reported the arrest of a deputy head of one of the district TCCs and his accomplice from another center. According to the investigation, after returning from the front line in the Kharkiv direction, the veteran approached the district TCC for the standard registration procedure. However, a center employee threatened him, emphasizing the possibility of declaring the veteran wanted and sending him back to the front line.
The second official involved offered his services to “resolve the issue” through his influence on the colleague. Both suspects were detained at the moment of the bribe transfer. One of the officials attempted to flee in a car, throwing the received money out of the window, but was stopped by law enforcement.
The detainees have been charged with extortion and receiving unlawful benefits. If found guilty, they face up to 10 years in prison.
Previous complications in the work of TCCs in Ukraine have already drawn attention. At the end of September, it was reported that only 10% of incidents related to TCCs were confirmed, while 90% were found to be fake. This highlights the importance of thorough verification of such cases to prevent corrupt practices.
