Damage during a night attack: monastery in Odesa suffered significant losses
During the night shelling of Odesa, the Holy Assumption Monastery suffered damage. The buildings of the monastery, the central altar, and the cemetery were damaged. Debris removal is ongoing.
Odesa was once again under attack, resulting in significant damage to the Holy Assumption Monastery. It is known that the dairy facility and the farmyard were damaged, and the greenhouse where plants were stored was affected. The central altar of the “Life-Giving Spring” church was left without stained glass and windows, and buildings on the monastery cemetery were destroyed, among them an ancient image of the Savior on the grave of St. Kuksha of Odesa.
The residence of Metropolitan Agafangel was also damaged, but the people in the monastery managed to take cover in time. One of the seminarians was injured and hospitalized. Archimandrite Isaiah noted that the “shaheds” strikes caused significant damage, but all those affected received first aid.
This incident is not the first in a series of attacks on religious sites in Ukraine recently. For instance, in the attack on June 10, 2025, the Saint Sophia Cathedral was harmed, and on January 24, 2026, for the first time since World War II, shelling damaged the Lavra, which is a UNESCO site.
