Attack on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure: Facilities Damaged in Three Regions
On the night of October 12th, Russian forces once again launched strikes on Ukraine’s energy and gas transportation facilities. Infrastructure in the Donetsk, Odesa, and Chernihiv regions was affected, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.
During the shelling in the Odesa region, a gas infrastructure facility and an agricultural structure were damaged. Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported that enemy drones targeted an energy facility and a district state administration building. One civilian was injured.
In the Chernihiv region, a schedule of hourly power outages has been implemented, noted the head of the local administration, Vyacheslav Chaus, emphasizing that the outage periods could be reduced thanks to the efforts of rescuers and energy workers.
In the Donetsk region, the morning attacks caused a blackout. The head of the regional military administration reported the deployment of resilience centers for residents to charge gadgets and stay warm.
In the night attack of October 12th, Ukraine faced an assault of 118 unmanned aerial vehicles and an X-31 missile. Air defense forces shot down 103 drones; there were also reports of a missile strike and 15 drones hitting targets.
Following previous massive attacks, including on October 10th, when over 450 drones and more than three dozen missiles were launched, critical infrastructure in many regions of Ukraine suffered significant damage. Although the situation remains challenging, electricity supply is gradually being restored in the affected regions.
